Feeling stuck or like there is so much information out there about digital marketing that you are getting overwhelmed? Whenever our clients say this, we know that it’s time to go back to basics. Most of these 7 books are required reading here at Get Quirked and for good reason. Without the knowledge they impart, none of us can do our jobs properly nor as effectively.
I highly recommend each of these books, each for different reasons, but they all help put you on the right path to success by helping you learn how to jumpstart your digital marketing.
Influence: The Psychology of Persuassion
Robert Cialdini is a professor at Arizona State University and actually immersed himself in several different industries that are based around selling so he could see how people interact and use psychology, sometimes without realizing it, to persuade prospects and customers to make purchases.
Many of these triggers and techniques are common sense, but often we overlook the obvious because “it couldn’t be as simple as that.” It is. Learn these techniques and implement them often.
There have been many people throughout history have used these techniques to sell their wares and unfortunately some of them have sold things that were not good for the consumer. Because of that, during Dr. Cialdini’s seminars where you can earn your certification in his techniques, he makes all students pledge an oath to be ethical and responsible when they use any of the techniques in this book.
We must ask that you do not employ these techniques in any malicious or unethical way. They are very powerful and as such, can be used for “evil”. Dr. Cialdini will be proud if you stay on the light side of the force.
The Closer’s Survival Guide
Grant Cardone has written more than a handful of books on the subject of selling, making deals, negotiation and hosts seminars to teach people what he’s learned in his 25+ years as an entrepreneur and salesman. The Closer’s Survival Guide is basically the playbook for closing any deal no matter the situation, product, service, or objections (which he explains are more often than not only complaints).
We’ve implemented many of the closes in our sales process when needed and they have proven effective time and time again. It basically comes down to believing in your product or service more than your potential sale does not. We don’t take that lightly. We are so confident in our service and believe that every company we connect with needs it, we just carry that through the sales process.
I have personally listened to the audiobook version of this, read by Grant himself, more than 15 times since purchasing it in August 2016. Repetition is a huge key for me toward learning and feeling comfortable with new techniques. Putting these tips and techniques into practice is also a great way to become more attuned to using them with ease.
The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing
Al Ries & Jack Trout
This book came highly recommended to me by one of my mentors, Timothy Marc. It was the first book he told me to read and I have to say, it’s had an incredible impact on the way we do things at Get Quirked. We have even made a little cheat sheet to make sure we’re not breaking any of these laws. Al Ries and Jack Trout have really nailed it here. This book is several decades old and was written before the internet existed in a consumer level like it does today. However, as we stated earlier, going back to basics is a must for every marketer. If you skip the fundamentals you might as well throw in the towel.
Learn these 22 immutable laws and you’ll be starting from a solid platform every time you begin a new marketing plan and strategy, guaranteed. This is a book that can and should be read often so you can start to see around your world, understand which laws apply where, and implement yourself in your own businesses.

No B.S. Direct Marketing: The Ultimate No Holds Barred Kick Butt Take No Prisoners Direct Marketing for Non-Direct Marketing Businesses
If you’ve done any research or study into marketing you’ve definitely come across the name Dan Kennedy at least once. He’s synonymous with the word marketing. While this particular book is geared more toward the world of direct contact selling, it’s no less applicable for the world of digital marketing.
There are so many golden nuggets in here, I don’t even want to specify any of them. Read the whole book and find them all for yourself.
DOTCOM Secrets can help show any business owner how to take their business online, build traction within a large or small segment of a demographic, make MONEY, and see constant growth. The trouble with most small business owners is that they aren’t willing to work until they pass out and their fingers bleed.
You have to be willing to hustle every moment you’re awake to build your business into the most successful part of your life, BUT that doesn’t mean you have to do everything yourself or struggle with some of today’s best technologies. The “secrets” in this book can definitely help you jumpstart your digital marketing so read it carefully, take notes, and then take action!
These last two books I have yet to read, but I they are in my pile of books to read in the next month. I’ve been told by several mentors and colleagues that both of these books have fundamentally changed the way they approach marketing and advertising, as well as business as a whole.

The War of Art
I love learning new ways to think about business and techniques to use in life to better myself, my relationships, and my business and I hope that these books will help you as they have helped me and will continue to help me, Get Quirked!, and all our clients for years to come! Once you’ve read any of these books, I’d love to chat with you about it on Skype. It would be great to have a repository of people’s thoughts and opinions about each of these books, so hit me up and we’ll schedule some time to chat! I hope that you’ll now know how to jumpstart your digital marketing and can see the value as soon as you implement some of these strategies and principles in your own businesses.
** I plan to update this post and provide more in-depth articles on these 7 books as I read and re-read all of them, so stay tuned for those.
